How we chose the perfect pool for our home.

Having a pool in our backyard was the second stage of our house renovation (one more to go). Our outdoor area is super important to us. We love to be outside cooking, eating and entertaining so we knew our pool area was where would be spending most of our time in the warmer months. Living in the country, we are three hours from the ocean so being able to have water views by the paddock is pretty special.

Our pool had to be out the front of our house as we don’t have any room in the backyard as we are too close to the boundary fence. Knowing the pool was out the front and the first thing people see when they drive up the driveway, we wanted to make sure it was perfect. When we finish our third stage of renovation the pool will be connected to both sections of our home.

The following elements were key to our pool completion:-

1. Really think about your design plan before you book in quotes, we started by creating a mood board with our top 8 images that incorporated our key themes. We knew after this that our key elements would be: -

   1. A sparkling blue pool

   2. A grey tile. The colour of your tile can really change the look of your pool so we laid our tile out along our other design choices to make sure it was the right fit. Always start with a sample or see in person if possible.

   3. Glass fencing (fencing was the hardest decision to make!)

   4. A stone wall

   5. A concrete bench seat

   6. Enough room for an outdoor lounge set ready for a grazing board and cocktails within the fenced area.

      Having this mood board ready for when the pool builders came to quote was so helpful as we had already made some big decisions such as location, size and colour.

2. Working with the best team, we’ve worked on various home renovations and cannot stress the importance of working with the right team and trades. We worked with Narellan Pools in Wagga Wagga and chose the 9 x 4M, grandeur in grey quartz. We loved the staircase entry and dual end steps. Both of these entry/exit points double as a spot to sit for a drink for the grownups or for little ones to build their water confidence. It still left us with plenty of room in the middle for action sports. Narellan got the pool in the ground and were absolutely amazing to work with. We coordinated our own electrician and plumber who were local and always get the job done. We completed the concrete slab, wall, concrete bench seat and glass fencing ourselves. The glass fencing was very hard to DIY so we would definitely recommend a professional to anyone that asks.

3. We went with a mineral pool; they offer therapeutic and eco-friendly benefits and are gentler on the skin and hair compared to traditional chlorine pools. We love that when we hop out of the pool, we don’t need to rush off for a shower straight away. The mineral feels so good on the skin.

   Our pool is used every single day in the warmer seasons and we love how it’s all come together!
